I know that feeling when you look in the mirror and don’t recognize yourself anymore.
I remember the day I watched a client try to put on a light jacket—and his hands just couldn’t find the sleeves. He couldn’t reach, and his shoulders shook with the effort. I could see the frustration in his eyes.
That moment changed me. Not because it was dramatic. But because it was ordinary—and still, it hurt.
I used to think helping meant pushing. But that day, I realized: healing doesn’t happen through pressure. It happens through presence.
What I Discovered About Real Health Transformation
You know that 3 AM moment when you’re lying awake, wondering if you’ll ever feel strong again? Or perhaps when you’re scrolling through your phone, looking at photos of who you used to be?
I’ve been there. So have many clients I’ve worked with over the past 34 years.
Here’s what most trainers won’t tell you: The problem isn’t your willpower. It’s not your age. It’s not even your diagnosis.
The problem is that nobody’s talking about what really happens when your body changes—the fear, the grief, the feeling like you’re losing yourself piece by piece.
Can we talk about that for a second?
Let’s Talk About It
The Truth About Why Other Programs Fail
Picture this: You’ve signed up for another fitness program. Day one, you’re motivated. Day seven, you’re exhausted. Day fourteen, you’re making excuses. Day twenty-one, you’ve given up entirely.
Sound familiar?
Here’s why that keeps happening—and it’s not what you think.
Most fitness programs treat your body like a machine that just needs fixing. They ignore the person inside who’s scared, frustrated, and tired of failing.
I learned this the hard way when my client Sarah broke down crying during what should have been a simple strength assessment. She wasn’t weak—she was terrified. Terrified of falling. Terrified of looking stupid. Terrified of hoping for something better and being disappointed again.
That’s when I realized I’d been doing this all wrong.
The Memphis Method: Small Wins, Big Changes
What if I told you that the secret isn’t in doing more, but in doing less—but doing it with someone who actually understands what you’re going through?
Here’s what we focus on instead:
- Week 1-2: Just showing up. No judgment, no pressure. We talk about what’s really going on—the fears, the pain, the things you’re not telling anyone else.
- Week 3-4: One small victory. Maybe it’s standing up without using your arms. Maybe it’s walking to the mailbox without getting winded. Whatever it is, we celebrate it.
- Week 5-8: Building momentum. Not because I’m pushing you, but because you’re starting to remember who you are underneath all the limitations.
This isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about becoming yourself again.

Why This Approach Works
Nine years ago, I almost walked away from personal training entirely. I was exhausted from watching people give up on themselves, and I was starting to think maybe I was the problem.
Then I met one of my favorite clients, respecting her privacy, let’s call her Mica.
Mica was in her 50’s, recently diagnosed with several lifestyle induced issues, and convinced she was “beyond help.” She’d been told by different trainers that she needed to “push through” her symptoms.
I took a completely different approach. Instead of trying to fix her, I listened. Instead of pushing her harder, I slowed down. Instead of treating her like a problem to solve, I treated her like a person with a story.
Six months later, Mica was gardening again and much more mobile. Not because I made her stronger—though she was stronger—but because I helped her remember that she was still “Mica”, just with some new challenges to navigate.
That’s when I realized: This isn’t about fitness. It’s about identity.

What Actually Happens When You Work With Me
First, we talk. Really talk. About what you’re afraid of, what you miss, what you’re hoping for. No exercises, no assessments, just conversation.
Then, we start small. So small it almost feels silly. Because the goal isn’t to exhaust you—it’s to help you succeed.
We build from there. Not according to some predetermined program, but according to what your body and your spirit need that day.
And we celebrate everything. Every small improvement, every moment of strength, every day you show up for yourself.
This is what happens when someone actually understands what you’re going through.

The Questions We’ll Explore Together
- What does strength look like for you right now?
- What would you do if you felt confident in your body again?
- What fears are you carrying about your future?
- What small victory would make you feel proud of yourself?
- How can we make this sustainable for the long haul?
These aren’t just training questions. They’re life questions.

I can’t promise you’ll get your old body back. I can’t promise it will be easy. And I definitely can’t promise you’ll never have bad days.
But I can promise you this: You’ll never have to face this alone.
You’ll never have to pretend you’re not scared. You’ll never have to apologize for going slow. And you’ll never have to wonder if someone understands what you’re going through.
Because the truth is, this journey isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about becoming who you’ve always been, just with some new tools to help you get there.
Let’s Remember You Together.

If you’re done with programs that make you feel like you’re failing…
